For Americans, Memorial Day is the widely considered to be the start of Summer. The confusing weather patterns and spring showers are replaced with longer days and short sleeves, regardless of the Summer Solstice not occurring for another month.

We wanted to tap into the long awaited Summer vibes and share our favorite songs that evoke that long weekend holiday spirit.

Ursina's Highlights:

Kokomo - The Beach Boys

When I think of Memorial Day, I think of the music I listened to in the summers of high school. After freshman year, I had a big time Beach Boys phase and probably listened to Kokomo every day.

American Beauty - Grateful Dead

There was also the summer my friends and I were really into the Eagles and Grateful Dead. The American Beauty CD was pretty much on on repeat.

Self Titled - Tracy Chapman

And then there was the moody summer where I discovered Tracey Chapman and her self-titled album. It includes her well-known Fast Car, but what really impressed me most was Behind the Wall.

Steffi's Highlights:

I Can See Clearly Now - Jimmy Cliff

In honor of Memorial Day, I have to whip out my favorite vacation songs. When channeling the feeling I get on summer vacations, a few songs come to mind. Jimmy Cliff's I Can See Clearly Now is at the top of the list.

Footloose Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

La Lambada by Kaoma is another one that I love and we can't forget Footloose! When I was young we always used to dance a lot, especially during summer holiday to our favorite dance movies.

Olivia's Highlights:

In Between Dreams - Jack Johnson

When I think of Memorial Day, I think of the long weekends I would spend on the beach with my best friends and a loud speaker. We'd bring out all of our favorite snacks and drinks and set up camp with our surfboards for the whole day. At the top of our playlist was always Jack Johnson, in particular his In Between Dreams album.

Greatest Hits - James Taylor

I also love listening to James Taylor, I am happy with any of his greatest hits. It reminds me of the warm sunny days growing up and my mom would play his music all day long!

In The Night - Charley Crockett

As of late, summers have been full of camping over the weekends and it is a requirement to listen to country and folk music. We to listen to Chris Stapleton, Charley Crockett, and Tyler Childers when we are deep in the mountains!

Listen to our completed playlist for all of your summer vacation music needs!
